How to Unfollow a Friend on Facebook

What exactly does it mean to unfollow someone on Facebook? Will we still be friends? Will they still be able to see my posts? Can I follow them again? These might be questions you’ve had.

Unfollowing someone on Facebook sounds harsh, but it is basically unfriending them without letting them know. This person will still see that you are friends and will still see your posts, however, you will no longer see any of their posts in your timeline. If you go to their Facebook profile, you will still be able to see all of their posts.

You can choose to snooze a Facebook acquaintance for 30 days or unfollow them until you decide otherwise. This also works for pages and groups you may follow.

Here are the steps you can take to either snooze or unfollow a Facebook friend, page or group.

First, log in to Facebook and go to the profile of the person, page or group you want to unfollow.

To unfollow a friend on mobile: Go to the person’s profile, click the three dots under their profile picture, click “Following” and select the “Unfollow” option.

To unfollow a friend on desktop: Go to the person’s profile and select the icon under their profile picture that looks like a person with a check mark by it and click “Unfollow”. Be sure not to select “Unfriend” unless you no longer want them to see your posts.

To unfollow a page on mobile: Go to the page’s profile, click the three dots under their profile picture, click “Following” and select the “Unfollow” option.

To unfollow a page on desktop: Go to the page’s profile, select the three dots under their profile picture, click “Follow Settings” and toggle on the “Unfollow this Page” icon.

If you’d rather snooze a person or page for 30 days, the easiest way to do that is by coming across one of their posts in your timeline, clicking the three dots on the top right of their post and selecting Snooze (person or page) for 30 days.

How to Re-Follow a Friend on Facebook

If after a certain amount of time you have reconnected with this friend and would like to see their Facebook posts again, you can re-follow them. Follow the steps below.

Step 1: Go to your Facebook profile.

Step 2: On desktop select the down arrow in the top right of your profile. On mobile, select the three horizontal lines at the bottom right of your screen.

Step 3: On desktop click “Settings & Privacy” and select “News Feed Preferences”. On mobile, you must click “Settings & Privacy”, then “Settings” and finally “News Feed Preferences”.

Step 4: Select “Reconnect with people you unfollowed”, select the specific person and click done.

Now you will once again see posts from this person in your Facebook News Feed.
